Dr Elena Pierard

Research Associate in Transport and Energy decarbonisation

About

Elena is a Research Associate in Transport and Energy decarbonisation with the FCDO’s Climate Compatible Growth programme at the School of Geography and the Environment and the Transport Studies Unit. Elena’s work focuses on three main themes: the political economy of climate change industrial policy; businesses, finance and sustainable transitions; and the link between transport and supply-side energy policies.

Elena’s doctoral research (2023) at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, School of Geography, Oxford, studied oil majors’ historical investment in the energy transition and their role in global climate governance and in emerging renewable energy industries. Previously, Elena has worked with the SSEE in de-risking water infrastructure finance in Mexico, and at the TSU in developing scenario narratives for transport and energy decarbonisation in Kenya.

Elena has also joined as a facilitator (2023) for the Oxford Scenarios Programme for executive education at the Saïd Business School. At Saïd she has served as TA for the GOTO programme and has conducted joint research on Net Zero Leadership Practices.
